The world was silent. Streets empty. Doors closed. Fear spread like wildfire as we were told—stay inside, stay away from others, stay safe. We were cut off from family, from friends, from our communities. But even worse, we were cut off from something just as vital—nature.

 

Hi, I’m Shannon Lane, creator and owner of The Cure Is Outdoors.  During those long, isolating days, the weight of it all pressed down. You remember, right? Our mental health was suffering. Humans aren’t meant to be confined; we need fresh air in our lungs, sun on our skin, the grounding embrace of the earth beneath our feet. The outdoors isn’t just a place—it’s a lifeline. 

 

One evening, lost in conversation with my closest friends, we felt it deep in our bones. The disconnection. The longing. The need for something more. And then, as if the truth had been waiting to be spoken, the words left my mouth—The Cure Is Outdoors!

It was more than just words. It was the answer.  As passionate anglers, hikers, paddlers, and explorers, we had always known what the wilderness gave us. Whether it’s the rhythm of waves against a kayak, the silence of a forest at dawn, or the crackling warmth of a fire beneath the stars—the outdoors heals. It quiets the mind, strengthens the body, and restores the soul. It brings us back to ourselves.  And that secret wasn’t meant to stay hidden—it needed to be shared.  That’s how The Cure Is Outdoors was born. 

 

More than a brand, it’s a movement. A call to step outside, to rediscover adventure, to rebuild connection—with nature, with each other, and with ourselves. A way to give back. With every item sold, we donate $1 to the Canadian Mental Health Association—because our mental well-being is deeply tied to our relationship with nature.

 

The wild isn’t just where we find peace. It’s where we belong. ​
